Have you ever seen an island with a cove that leads to a cave? This is the island of Proratora.
Proratora is an island at the tip of the Capo Coda Cavallo peninsula. It is characterized by predominantly red granite rocks. This rock type is common in northern Sardinia, from Santa Teresa to Castelsardo, and throughout Gallura.
You enter from the eastern side, where, after about thirty meters, you reach the fascinating Grotta del Forno. It is unique in that it is connected to the surface at the top of the island by a natural chimney.
This cove has a setting that immediately makes you want to take a souvenir photo to share with your friends.
On the sides of the cave, you can observe sea tomatoes, which are washed by the surge of the tide. They are a type of anemone, similar to sea anemones. They are stinging but also edible.
Around the island, it is easy to spot the cormorant, a water bird from the Phalacrocoracidae family. It is notable for staying submerged for long periods and diving to significant depths in search of its prey.
The dinghy excursion to Proratora is a recommended destination, whether you rent a dinghy independently, as it is easy to find and reach. It is also the destination for all the skippers who lead dinghy excursions in the Tavolara and Coda Cavallo Marine Area.
